Sand dollars (Clypeasteroida) belong to the Irregularia, one of the two subclasses of sea urchins, and have adapted to life in rough coastal and near-shore waters. Their flat shape offers them little water resistance and the side arms of their intestines are filled with the heaviest pebbles they can find and swallow.
