Scaphognathus crassirostris (Goldfuss, 1831)Age: Upper Jurassic, Portlandian; Locality: Solnhofen, Bavaria, GermanyDimensions: 26 x 16 cmFossil of the year 2021, discovered and described by Georg August Goldfuss in 1831. The Bonn-based palaeontologist and founder of the Goldfuss Museum had already proven that pterosaurs had hair on this specimen in the year it was found. Researchers at the University of Bonn have now confirmed his original observations: Scaphognathus did indeed have fur-like insulation. Using the latest methods, such as UV light and the RTI method, the scientists made this fine “hair” visible. Our casts are made in-house from cast wood and colored by hand.It is therefore possible that photos may differ slightly in color from the pieces sent to you.
