Munsell Color Charts
Originally developed by the GSA (Geological Society of America) based on the Munsell color system and published for use by mineralogists and geologists in the field, theMunsell Rock Color Book was revised in 2009 at the Munsell Laboratories and re-released as a weatherproof chart. The updated Munsell Rock Color Chart, featuring 115 color patches, is perfect for describing rocks while conducting fieldwork. This applies to medium- to fine-grained rocks, as well as coarse-grained rocks. For very coarse-grained rock, it is necessary to determine the color of each mineral individually.Using the color book, and provided the rock is not too coarse-grained, the mixed color of the individual minerals is determined by rotating the sample or by viewing it from a short distance. It is compared with the color chart and documented along with the color designation. The chart contains 115 Munsell notations necessary for determining stone colorsfrom the following hues: 5R, 10R, 5YR, 10YR, 5Y, 10Y, 5GY, 10GY, 5G, 10G, 5BG, 5B, 5PB, 5P, 5RP, 5YR, 5Y, 5GY, 5G, 5B + nine neutral gray tones. For technical reasons, colors in product photos may differ from those of the actual product. Our images are for reference; upon purchase, you will receive a product of equivalent quality.

The book is designed so that soil color determinations can be made quickly and easily outdoors. The classification system, which was developed around the Munsell Color System, is an established and accepted method for assigning soil types. Soil color charts were developed in collaboration with the US Natural Resources Conservation Service.contains 13 wipeable color charts with a total of 443 colors for classifyingsoil and rock colors and their propertiescolors and color codes (Munsell notation) contained are internationally recognizedcan also be used to determine the color of other natural productscolor areas approx. 12 x 15 mmcolor name and soil structure diagramsopenings between color chips facilitate easy viewingsupplied in a folder approx. 15.5 x 20 cmexplanations in EnglishIndividual pages of color charts are not available from the manufacturer! The colors are divided into the following sections: 7 pages, one each with the colors: 10R, 2.5YR, 5YR, 7.5YR, 10YR, 2.5Y, and 5Y2 pages of gumbo, blue and green tones1 page “White Page” with very light and almost neutral colors, Value: 8.5 / 9.0 / 9.5,Chroma: N / 7.5R / 10YR / 2.5Y1 page 10Y and 5GY for sand and desert soils1 page 5R for Australian and Southeast Asian soils1 page 7.5R for tropical and semi-tropical soilsThe backing material of the charts is made of plastic and can be wiped with a damp cloth (do not soak).Colored areas consist of a coat of varnish on special paper and must be protected from heavy soiling and excessive moisture.
