Poster "Living Planet" (german)
Size: DIN A1 (59 x 84 cm)Only in german language available. The development of life on our planet and geological changes over time are the theme of the poster "Living Planet". It was created in 1998 with the aim of providing a holistic overview, or rather impression, of the history of Earth. "Living Planet" is still one of the most successful posters of Planet Poster Editions. The third planet of our solar system was formed about 4600 million years ago and has been home to living organisms for 3800 million years. Our poster focuses primarily on the last 540 million years, during which time the biodiversity of cellular life has evolved in particular. In order to contribute to a more global understanding of our planet, we have tried to ignore the fact that much of Earth history publications refer exclusively to the last few million years and to the appearance of humans. The landscape picture for the Quaternary, which is only about 2 million years old, is only 2 mm high in our poster, with some insects, fish and grasses as dominant organisms. Humans don't show up: the amount of time we have inhabited this planet is only a vanishingly small fraction of that taken up by other organisms in history. We devoted a separate poster (B 92221) to humans. We also tried to take into account that much of what is written in popular science about Mesozoic organisms (from Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous) gives a distorted picture of Earth's history. Many authors, even reputable ones, try to convince us that 95% of the history of life occurred in a region corresponding to present-day North America. In our poster we have chosen a Triassic life picture from today's Africa and South America, and for the Cretaceous one from today's Asia.
