Publisher: Frederick A. Stokes CompanyPublication Date: 1911Binding: HardcoverYou are purchasing a used book, which means it will be delivered in used condition.Condition: Good condition! The Hardcover has some rough edges but the Pages look quite new considering the Age. Author: Leonard J. SpencerEdition: 1.The World’s Minerals (1911) by Leonard Spencer, published by the Frederick A. Stokes Company, stands as a remarkable window into the early 20th century’s fascination with the natural world and the scientific pursuit of understanding it. Written during a time when mineralogy was rapidly developing as a formal discipline, this work reflects both the curiosity and rigor of its era. Spencer, a respected mineralogist, brings clarity and enthusiasm to a subject that bridges science, beauty, and practical importance.Within its pages, readers are introduced to the extraordinary diversity of minerals that make up the Earth’s crust—from common rock-forming substances to rare and dazzling crystalline structures. The book does more than catalog specimens; it invites readers to appreciate the processes that shape them, including geological formation, chemical composition, and the environmental conditions that give rise to their unique forms. Detailed descriptions are often paired with illustrations typical of the period, offering both educational value and aesthetic charm.Beyond its scientific contributions, The World’s Minerals captures a historical moment when exploration and classification were central to expanding human knowledge. It reflects a worldview eager to document and understand nature’s complexity, often with a sense of wonder that still resonates today. For modern readers, the book serves not only as an introduction to mineralogy but also as a cultural artifact—revealing how science was communicated and appreciated over a century ago. It remains a testament to the enduring allure of the Earth’s hidden treasures and the timeless human desire to uncover and understand them.
