Caceola sandalina, from lat. calceolus = small shoe, slipper. Its appearance is reminiscent of the tip of a shoe.
The solitary growing lidded coral is an index fossil for the Middle Devonian, which did not anchor itself and instead laid flat on the ground. Its calcareous lid protected it from dirt.
