Big (2x3 cm) Ellipsocephalus hoffi, Cambrian, Jince

Product information "Big (2x3 cm) Ellipsocephalus hoffi, Cambrian, Jince"

Beautifully big preserved trilobites with distinct segmentation.
Site in Czech Republic not accessible anymore!

Age: Cambrian
Locality: Jince, Czech Republic
Size: Trilobite approx. 2x3 cm, on matrix: approx. 7 x 6 x 1 cm

This species lacked eyes and therefore lived in unlit conditions, probably deeper zones of the sea. It also performed something called "double enrollment": to protect itself it did not roll-up like some isopods do nowadays with head and end coming together. Instead it tucked its micropygidium under its thorax and covered it with its giants cephalon.

The colors of the original may differ slightly from those of the product photos due to technical reasons.
