Product information "Assilina sp. in matrix, Middle Eocene, HUN"
Although they were protozoans, Nummulites (diminutive form of the Latin nummulus 'little coin') are still known to have left behind comparatively large fossils. As they always added further chambers to their calcareous housings, shells up to 10 cm in size were found. The animal itself sat in the anterior chambers and stretched out pseudopodia to feed on other small creatures.
The last picture shows the backside. There are more nummulites there.
Age: Middle Eocene, Lutetian;
Locality: Magyarpolány, Ajka district, Bakony Mountains, Hungary
Size of several nummulites: up to 3 cm each; matrix: 6 x 7 x 2.5 cm
