Small, completely preserved sea urchins without spines. As the spines are only attached to the body with a thin layer of tissue, they quickly fall off after the death of the animal and are carried away by the current. However, the body is preserved with the finest details, such as the spine bases or the pores on the ambulacral plates.Age: CretaceousLocality: MoroccoSize: approx. 1.5 cmThe photo is a sample image. Advent Calendar Minerals 2024
Advent Calendar Minerals 2024
Variety: with minerals 2024
Dear friends of the Advent calendar, once again this year we are presenting you with insights into the fascinating world of stones, minerals and crystals. Each specimen is accompanied by a small text in the booklet: Every day you can read about the properties, origins, current use or characteristics of the respective mineral. A note with the exact name and locality is also included. Please note: only available in German language. This calendar does not contain tumbled stones, but the natural varieties of rocks! Our Advent calendar comes in a cardboard box (21 x 29 cm) containing 18 small boxes (3 x 4.5 cm) and 6 larger boxes (approx. 4.5 x 6 cm) for Sundays, St. Nicholas Day and Christmas. You can reuse the boxes for your own collection, which makes the calendar more sustainable.Everything is made in Bonn, Germany.A wonderful gift for friends, family or yourself. It's a must-have and a bargain for anyone even remotely interested in minerals. The cover picture is thanks to S. Bernsteiner, who took part in our social media contest in the summer and won.For our regular Advent calendar customers:It's not easy to stock a calendar with innovative content every year at a reasonable price, which is why we're repeating a few items this year for those who already know this calendar from previous years. This year there are six recurrences from 2021, three from 2020, one from 2019 and four from 2017.You are welcome to find out which ones and we can replace parts if you wish, please write to us.

Amber with inclusions in magnifier box
A classified insect (e.g. beetle, spider, ant, mosquito, fly), enclosed in amber from the Eocene of the Baltic (approx. 50 million years old). Packed in a magnifying lid box - a real surprise package!Amber is fossilized tree resin. As each tree species produces different resins, each amber locality is different. The origin of Baltic amber is still a mystery, as even the large sites in Kaliningrad are relocations.Make sure that your amber is not exposed to the sun, as this can degrade the material over time.Age: EoceneLocality: Baltic StatesSize: approx. 1.5 cm in magnifying lid box The colors in the pictures may differ slightly from the original due to technical reasons. All our pictures serve as examples. Araucaria wood, polished, Triassic; MDG
Araucaria wood, polished, Triassic; MDG
Araucarias are conifers with hard, pointed and blade-shaped leaves. Currently they are only found in South America and Oceania, which is a relic of their distribution on the southern prehistoric continent of Gondwana, that split into South America, Africa, India, Antarctica and Australia.Their wood fossilized as it became saturated with silica-containing water in the absence of oxygen. This water precipitated in the interstices as quartz, chalcedony or opal and replaced the wood, which was slowly decomposed by anaerobic bacteria. Other minerals in the water, mostly iron oxides, provided the coloration.Age: TriassicLocality: MadagascarSize: 2 - 3 cmColors on product photos may differ from those of the original specimen due to technical reasons. Our photos serve as a reference, you will receive a piece of comparable quality with your purchase.

Belemnite, Cretaceous, GER (~ 6 cm)
Belemnite, Cretaceous, GER (~ 6 cm)
Well-preserved, isolated belemnite. The name derives from the Greek "belemnon" = "projectile", which is why these fossils, which are often washed out of the earth after thunderstorms, are also known as thunderbolts. These are calcite crystals which grew inside a squid and gave the animal stability. Unlike ammonites, which protected themselves with shells, these cephalopods were able to swim quickly and nimbly thanks to their stability. Something similar can be observed in the school of modern cuttlefish.Age: Cretaceous, Campanian (approx. 80 million years old);Locality: Höver near Hanover, Lower Saxony, GermanySize: approx. 6 cmColors on product photos may differ slightly from those of the original specimen due to technical reasons. The photos are for reference only. Dentalium sexangulum, Pliocene, ITA
Dentalium sexangulumScaphopods - "burrowing animals"Scaphopods spend their lives in the sediment, where they use small tentacles to catch creatures between the grains of sand. Only the pointed end of the shell protrudes into the water, allowing this mollusc to breathe fresh water through a hole. Ellipsocephalus hoffi, Cambrian, Jince
Beautifully preserved trilobites with distinct segmentation.Site in Czech Republic not accessible anymore!Age: CambrianLocality: Jince, Czech RepublicSize: Trilobite about 2,5 - 3 cm, on matrix: 5 x 12 x 1 cmThis species lacked eyes and therefore lived in unlit conditions, probably deeper zones of the sea. It also performed something called "double enrollment": to protect itself it did not roll-up like some isopods do nowadays with head and end coming together. Instead it tucked its micropygidium under its thorax and covered it with its giants cephalon. The colors of the original may differ slightly from those of the product photos due to technical reasons.

Fossil wood slab (4x6 cm), Triassic, MDG
Fossil wood slab (4x6 cm), Triassic, MDG
Very beautiful, fossil wood slice, polished.Araucarias are conifers with hard, pointed, blade-shaped leaves. Today they are only found in South America and Oceania, which is a relic of their distribution on the southern primeval continent of Gondwana, which later split into South America, Africa, India, Antarctica and Australia. The wood fossilized by being saturated with siliceous water in the absence of oxygen. The silica precipitated in the gaps as quartz, chalcedony or opal and replaced the wood, which was slowly disintegrated by anaerobic bacteria. Other minerals in the water, mostly iron oxides, provided the coloration.Age: TriassicLocality: MadagascarSize: 4 x 6 cmFor technical reasons, the colors in the product photos may differ slightly from those of the original specimen. Our photos are for reference only, you will receive a piece of comparable quality with your purchase.

Fossilized horse bone, Pleistocene, GER
Fossilized horse bone, Pleistocene, GER
In the past, horses were widespread throughout the Holarctic until they retreated to the Central Asian steppes during the Pleistocene, probably because of an ice age. Originally small forest dwellers, these horses grew into speedy grazers as the Eocene primeval forests were replaced by steppes and grasslands. One adaptation involved high-crowned, constantly growing teeth that would wear down from the tougher grass - the elongation of the legs for swifter flight and a better view was another. In this case we do not see a leg bone as we humans have, but a metatarsal, Os metarsale (a long bone).Age: PleistoceneLocality: North SeaSize: approx. 20-25 cmThe colors on product photos may differ slightly from those of the original specimen for technical reasons. Our photos are for reference only, you will receive a piece of comparable quality with your purchase.

Beautiful sea urchin. The West African Sanddollar still exists today and has been adapted to life in shallow water at the base of waves for millions of years. This allows the sea urchin to use its small grasping feet to pick up food undisturbed and transport it to its mouth using mucus trails.Age: Pliocene;Locality: Morocco Size: 2-3 cm Comes in a black Jousi box.Colors on product photos may differ slightly from those of the original specimen for technical reasons. Our photos are for reference only, when purchasing you will receive a piece of comparable quality.
