Product information "Cave bear bone"
Metacarpal /metatarsal bone of a cave bear (Ursus spelaeus) from the Quaternary of the Czech Republic.
Place of discovery: Czech Republic
Size: ca. 6 - 8 cm
Like modern bears they hibernated in caves, where some of them would never wake up again. This concentrated their bones in ancient caves, hence the name. They might have been pure herbivores, but their size, claws and teeth still made them one of the most dangerous animals to cross paths with.
