The slab limestones of the Eocene Green River Formation are in no way inferior to the famous Solnhofen slab limestones in terms of preservation quality and are sometimes much more abundant. Knightia is the most common fossil in the deposit and is synonymous with it. Knightia was a species of freshwater swarm fish. It is always found in large numbers in fossil form. Therefore, it is assumed that they often fell victim to events such as algal blooms.
