Rhynie-Chert is a sedimentary rock, that was deposited in hydrothermal springs and the surround river systems. The high silica content in the water caused precipitation and quickly silicified all plant material in the water. Because sometimes early arthropods also got preserved, Rhynie chert is one of the most important lagerstätten for the study early arthropod evolution.
