Product information "Microphyllia, Jurassic, GER"

Beautiful, silicified coral of the species Microphyllia.

Scleractinia like this one first appeared in the Triassic, but it was their symbiosis with algae towards the Jurassic that allowed corals to become reef-builders again. Unlike older taxa such as tabulates and rugose, their skeleton was made of aragonite, not calcite.

Age: Upper Jurassic, Lower Tithonian;
Locality: Nattheim, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany
Size: approx. 6 x 6,5 x 2 cm

The picture serves as an example, you will receive a piece of comparable quality. The colors on the pictures may differ slightly from the original due to technical reasons.
