Beautiful silicified coral of the species Thecosmilia trichotoma.
Scleractinians like this one first appeared in the Triassic, but it was their symbiosis with algae towards the Jurassic that allowed corals to become serious reef-builders again. Unlike older taxa such as tabulate and rugose corals their skeleton was made of calcite, not aragonite.
