Nothosaurus was a member of one of the earliest groups of secondarily marine reptiles, the sauropterygians, which dominated the Triassic seas. Unlike later representatives however their limbs had not become fins yet. This is one of their vertebrae without neural arch embedd in a sandstone matrix. The historical label is included.
