Cyphaspis balonops is the type species of Cyphaspis.
Beautiful small trilobite Cyphaspis balonops with well-preserved facet eyes and spines.
This piece can no longer be found today and originates from an old collection, so this is a unique opportunity!
The “Pelm-Salmer Weg” site near the little village of Gees served as a type locality for many classic trilobite finds and is one of the most famous localities for trilobites. The area was designated a nature reserve in 1987 with the main aim of protecting the fossil-bearing sediment layers. Collecting there is now banned.
Age: Middle Devonian, Eifelian, Ahrdorf Formation;
Locality: Pelm-Salmer Weg, Gees (Gerolstein), Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany
Size trilobite: approx. 2,2 cm; matrix: 6 cm x 4,5 x 4 cm
