Ultraviolet light has wavelengths below 400 nm, usually 365 nm or 395 nm in flashlights.
Invisible to the human eye, it can cause damage to the retina and lens. Yellow protective
glasses contain optical filter material that absorbs or reflects UV radiation and parts of the
blue light (typically below approx. 420 nm).
This ensures two things:
Eye protection: Dangerous UV radiation does not reach the eye.
Contrast enhancement: Visible fluorescent light emitted by amber in UV light
(usually yellowish-green), appears much brighter because distracting blue
shades are filtered out.
