Fruit from lignite.
Water levels in Germany's Rhineland were so high during the Tertiary period - the Lower Rhine Bay was a sea. Mangrove forests and coastal swamps accumulated enough plant material during this period to form large coal seams. Such a fruit is occasionally found in them.
