Product information "Sanddollar: Scutella faujasi, Miocene, FR"
Very decorative piece!
Sea urchin species Scutella faujasi on solidified matrix.
The animal was lightly sanded on the surface, making its characteristic five-rayed structure
particularly visible.
Since sea urchins are usually found as individual specimens in relatively soft sandstone,
it is virtually impossible to extract larger sandstone slabs with the enclosed urchins
still intact.
Age: Neogene, Miocene, Helveticum;
Locality: Doué-la-Fontaine, Département Maine-et-Loire, France
Size sea urchin: approx. 7 cm
Colors on product pictures may differ slightly from the original specimen for technical reasons.
