Age: Upper Cretaceous, Maastrichtian;Locality: Ouled Bouali, west of Qued Zem, MoroccoSize: 13 x 10,5cm; Fossil: 6 x 2 cmThis fossil tooth comes from a Mosasaurus, a giant marine reptile that lived about 70 to 66 million years ago, during the Late Cretaceous period. Mosasaurs were not dinosaurs but were closely related to modern monitor lizards and snakes. They inhabited the warm seas that once covered large parts of North Africa.In Morocco, especially in the Khouribga region (the so-called Phosphate Basin), numerous fossils have been discovered over the years — including teeth, bones, and even complete skeletons of mosasaurs. The local limestone and phosphate layers provided excellent conditions for fossil preservation.The tooth itself is conical, slightly curved, and often still shows fine cutting edges.
