Lambis digitata;
Pterocera is an older scientific name for this marine snail species.
Lambis lambis is widespread in the Indo-West Pacific and lives in mangrove zones, reef flats and coral rubble beds in shallow water down to a depth of 5 meters. It feeds herbivorously, mainly on fine red algae.
This species is commonly known as the spider conch, which probably refers to the characteristic flared outer lip, Its digitations are reminiscent of spider legs. This striking feature makes Lambis lambis a popular decorative and ornamental object.
