Product information "Graptolite: Didymograptus murchisoni"

Specimens of Didymograptus murchisoni (BECK) on shale.

Age: Ordovician
Region of discovery: Aberreidi Bay, Central Wales Coast, Great Britain.
Size: ca. 7 cm.

Graptolites were colony-forming filterers who formed organic exoskeletons. These are commonly found in Ordovician and Silurian deposits, where they are used for biostratigraphy. Early forms had many branches and were sessile, while later forms such as this one reduced their complexity and became free-floating.
