Sequoia abietina, also referred to as a fossil species of the genus Sequoia, is an extinct conifer that was present during the Oligocene to Miocene. It is closely related to modern redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens) and was part of ancient subtropical and warm-temperate ecosystems.
Such remains have been discovered in various locations across Europe, including Germany and Austria, often in lignite deposits or sedimentary formations of the late Oligocene to early Miocene.
