Ediacaran biota: Hiemalora stellaris, Precambrian, RUS

Product information "Ediacaran biota: Hiemalora stellaris, Precambrian, RUS"

A very rare collectible!

Resembling a sea anemone in appearance, Hiemalora is a fossil from the Ediacaran biota
with a diameter of about 3 cm. The genus features a sac-like body with faint, radiating
lines that were originally interpreted as tentacles.
The discovery of a fern-like structure that appears to have grown attached to some
Hiemalora specimens has lent more weight to a competing interpretation:
This is the anchoring structure of a larger organism.

Age: Proterozoic, Vendian, Ediacaran; Belomorian Stage,
Yorga Formation, Kimberella Layers
Locality: Solza River, Arkhangelsk Oblast, White Sea, northwestern Russia
Size: 13 x 11 x 2.5 cm

The Ediacaran Hills give their name to the Ediacaran, a geological period of the late
Precambrian that took place approximately 635 to 542 million years ago.
They contain one of the oldest known fossil deposits of multicellular organisms
with preserved soft tissues.

Colors on product fotos may differ from those of the original specimen due to technical limitations.
