Conularia, Devonian, Eifel, GER

Product information "Conularia, Devonian, Eifel, GER"

A rare find from the Eifel region!

Age: Devonian;
Location: Wachtberg, Sötenich, Eifel, Germany
Size: 13.5 x 10.2 x 2.5 cm

Conularia belongs to an extinct and still enigmatic group of marine animals that were likely related to cnidarians – distant relatives of modern jellyfish and sea anemones. Its body was enclosed in a pyramid-shaped, four-sided shell made of a tough, horn-like material. This unusual structure makes Conularia one of the most striking fossils of the Paleozoic era.

In the Eifel region, Conularia fossils are extremely rare. While the area is well known for its rich Devonian fossil record, conulariids occur only in a few layers and are often poorly preserved. Well-preserved specimens from the Eifel are therefore highly sought after by collectors and scientifically valuable.
