Also known as "Taung child" or "Taung baby".
Type specimen.
Fragmentary infant skull.
This cast of an infant skull with a full cranial casting is from one of the oldest hominid species. The receding forehead, the bulging eyebrows and the protruding lower part of the facial skull are characteristic of these precursors of Homo sapiens.

Location: Taung, Northwest Province, South Africa
