Size: DIN A1 (59 x 84 cm)Available in german language only!Evolution of Life on our planet and geological transformations over time are the subject of the poster "Living Planet". It was developed in 1998 with the claim to provide a holistic overview or impression of the Earth's history. "Lebendiger Planet" is still one of the most successful posters of Planet Poster Editions.Our solar system's third planet was formed about 4600 million years ago and has been home to living organisms for 3800 million years. This poster concentrates mainly on the last 540 million years, during which biodiversity of cellular living organisms has evolved in particular. Contributing to a more global understanding of our planet, we tried to ignore the fact that most of earth history publications refer exclusivly to the last few millions of years and to the appearance of humans. For example, the landscape image for the Quaternary, which is only about 2 million years old, is only 2 mm high in our poster, with some insects, fish, and grasses as the dominant organisms. Humans don't show up: the amount of time we've been colonizing this planet is only a vanishingly small fraction of that taken up by other organisms in history. We devoted a separate poster (B 92221) to humans. Also, we tried to take into account that much of what is written in popular science about Mesozoic organisms (from Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous) gives a distorted picture of Earth's history. Quite a few authors, even the serious ones, try to convince us that 95% of the history of life occurred in a region corresponding to present-day North America. In our poster we have chosen a Triassic life picture from contemporary Africa and South America, and for the Cretaceous one from contemporary Asia.Accompanying booklet see B92202!
